THE SHAKTI WITHIN: Women Who Make a Difference
This Navratri, Just Swap celebrated the extraordinary Shakti of ordinary women — women who turn sustainability into a way of life.
Meet some of the amazing women of our Kalyani Nagar community who remind us that changing the world begins at home.
🌱 Vidya Sridharan walks her zero-waste talk, from reusing furniture despite her architects' protests to collecting beach litter with her daughter in Goa and bringing it back for recycling. She also ensures hair and rags are collected for recycling.
🌱 Vaishali Nadkarny, with her remarkable memory, coordinates thermocole recycling and grows vegetables on her compost-fed terrace. Her homegrown turmeric becomes powder, and her carrots become cakes shared with the RRC team!
🌱 Vijaya Rao, our Plastic Warrior, has championed plastic recycling for over a decade. She also is lead singer of Band Bajaa De, TSKN's scrap band, and organises food donations for orphanages and ashrams.
🌱 Girija Venkatraman took up natural farming later in life and is now a much-sought-after organic farmer, proving it's never too late to follow a passion.
🌱 Sonia Luthra champions climate-resilient millets through workshops and delicious creations — from cakes and cookies to an array of millet-based dishes.
🌱 Manisha Gutman, through eCoexist, has helped make festivals greener by promoting organic Holi colours, clay Ganesh idols and the recovery and reuse of idol clay through Punaravartan.
🌱 Padma Kantheti gives old things new lives — from repurposed furniture and fabric to refurbished electronics. A champion of handlooms, composting, seed saving and giving, she practises sustainability in almost every aspect of life.
🌱 Savitha Pais composts, reuses water, shares seeds and saplings, and saves paper. A piano teacher and compassionate counsellor to her students, she nurtures people as thoughtfully as she nurtures her plants.
🌱 Aruna Suratkal, who manages our Resource Recycling Centre with Maya, ensures usable things find the right homes. She champions second-hand purchases, recycled products and thoughtful, eco-friendly gifts.
Different journeys, one shared belief: we don't always need more things. Sometimes, we simply need to do more with what we already have.
These women compost, recycle, grow, share, nurture and inspire — often without fanfare. Their everyday choices are acts of courage, creativity and compassion.
This Navratri, we celebrated their Shakti — the power to make a difference, one thoughtful choice at a time. ❤️🌱
Happy Festive Season from Just Swap!
