I was walking up to meet Shaheen Saeed from whom I almost bought a printer, when outside the ground floor flat i chanced upon The Honesty Bookshelf, a lovely wooden carousel bookshelf filled with a whole lot of books, and another little basket alongside with more books.

The Honesty Bookshelf is a fantastic concept by Pervin and Saket from Rohan Mithila, Viman Nagar, Pune. They keep books on this shelf and invite people to sit and read, and even take and replace. It’s a wonderful meeting hub for the children of the society.

Saket is known as Bookwalla uncle. Pervin is known as Writer Aunty because she is a writer herself. As Pervin says: “I’m a voracious reader and I also write fiction and poetry. As a child I was always running out of books. I wanted to ensure that anyone who enjoys reading should have access to al kinds of books.”

What is most heartening is that apart from children and adults of the residential complex, even delivery executives take books from here. They mostly look for self-help books and business books. Everyone is welcome to read, exchange or donate books.

Thank you Pervin and Saket for the inspiration, and for setting a great example in collaborative consumption! šŸ’ššŸ’š
